SE® online Introductory

with Mariëlle Maaswinkel

November 28-29, 2026

online

The Somatic Experiencing® introductory workshop is for those who would like to learn about a body-oriented approach to trauma, stress and the functioning of the nervous system. It is particularly recommended for helping professionals – psychologists, psychotherapists, doctors, coaches and others working in the helping professions – who wish to expand their professional toolkit with a body-focused method.

The workshop may also be of value to those who, whether out of personal or professional interest, wish to gain a better understanding of the role of bodily responses in processing stress and traumatic experiences. Participants will gain an insight into the philosophy, core concepts and practical application of Somatic Experiencing®.

Over the two days, we offer skills and tools that participants can immediately apply in both their personal and professional lives to support self-regulation and alleviate symptoms of a “deregulated” nervous system.

We build these skills through experiential exercises, demonstrations, and theory to provide a safe toolbox for developing self-regulation.

Who is this workshop recommended for?

Somatic Experiencing® offers a new and hopeful perspective on trauma. It views humans as exceptional beings with an innate capacity for healing, and as intellectual beings capable of harnessing and utilizing this capacity. It asks and answers the perplexing question of how it is possible that wild animals, despite often facing life-threatening situations, rarely become traumatized. The mystery of human trauma can be revealed by understanding the inner workings of wild animals, which make them virtually immune to traumatic symptoms.

Somatic Experiencing® is a natural approach to processing post-traumatic stress. It is based on the observation that wild animals are able to regulate and neutralize the high levels of stress they often experience without suffering long-term debilitating effects – effects that humans experience in similar threatening situations.

The workshop will be led by Mariëlle Maaswinkel, SEP, NARM (Neuro-Affective Relational Model) and IFS (Internal Family Systems Therapy) practitioner, SEI (Somatic Experiencing® Internatioanl) Faculty member.

The workshop is a combination of theory, lectures and experiential exercises covering the following topics:
