Requirements for Certification
Only those who have completed the full Training and all other requirements necessary for obtaining the Somatic Experiencing® Practitioner or SEP title can receive it and apply the Somatic Experiencing® method in their practice. Somatic Experiencing® is a legally protected trademark.
Participants who do not meet the requirements listed below may only use the title "SE student in training." All Somatic Experiencing Practitioners (SEPs) worldwide who have received the SEP certificate have completed ALL classroom hours AND all additional individual and supervision hours.
-
Attendance
There are 3 training years, each with two 6-day modules, so the full Training consists of 36 days. If you miss part of a module, you can make it up by taking one supervision hour for each missing day, in addition to the supervision hours included in the requirements.
If an entire module is missed due to extraordinary reasons, it can be made up by arrangement through viewing the necessary video materials and completing a minimum of 2 supervision hours to familiarize with the experiential practices.
-
Consultation Requirements
To become a certified SEP, you must complete 15 hours of individual and 18 hours of supervision consultation with an SEI-recognized practitioner. The required amount must be completed evenly distributed over the 3 years of the Training! Supervision hours must be completed within a maximum of 1 year after completing the Advanced II module. Participants receive the SE certificate and SEP title only after completing both individual and supervision consultations.
All consultations are recorded in the Student Portal – consultation log, to which we provide access after registration. Each consultation must be confirmed by the consultation leader. Before booking a consultation, check if the provider has the appropriate certification for your level of training.
The fee for individual and supervision consultation is the responsibility of the participant and is based on individual agreement between the participant and the provider. Consultation fees are not included in the tuition. Prices may vary by country and provider.
Personal Experience – 15 hours of individual consultation
-
10 hours of personal experience consultations must be with a provider assisting in the Training. This is to provide support relevant to your level of training and curriculum. Assistants providing individual SE consultations are available during the Training in the mornings, lunch breaks, or evenings. Sign-up sheets are available on-site during the Training. Many find individual sessions particularly useful during this period as they help process personal issues that arise during Training.
-
5 hours of personal experience consultations can be with any SEP provider appropriate for your level of training – either in person or online– thus widely opening the door to global access to SEPs.
Supervision consultation – 18 hours of supervision consultation
Supervision must be with an authorized provider, either in person or online, and can consist of both individual and group consultations.
-
At least 6 hours must be with a Somatic Experiencing International Teacher (Faculty), either in group or individual form. SE trainers are all instructors. SE Hungary plans to organize at least 4 group supervisions led by trainers during the 3-year training, usually held the day before the start of the Training module.
-
At least 4 hours must be individual supervision hours, not group. This ensures that the participant meets the supervision requirements and presents at least 4 cases individually.
Individual supervision hours are available with authorized assistants during the Training.
-
Individual supervision: For individual supervision, 1 supervision hour equals 1 credit hour.
-
Group supervision: For group supervisions of 3 or more participants, 3 supervision hours equal 1 credit hour, and a one-and-a-half-hour supervision session equals 0,5 credits for each participant.
Authorized Providers
You can find the current list of authorized providers on the SEI website. The list is updated quarterly.
We encourage participants to take consultation hours from several different authorized providers. Each was taught by a different trainer and each has their own methodological peculiarities and style – thus allowing for a richer learning experience. These hours can be completed online and in person.
