Prerequisites for applying to the SE Training

  • Introductory Workshop

All participants in the SE Training must attend an Introductory workshop before starting the 3-year Training.

  • Professional Organization // Entry Requirement

The Somatic Experiencing Professional Training is a continuing education program aimed at developing the skills of professionals working with traumatized or stressed individuals. When applying for the Training, it's important that the applicant is a professional with an active practice so that they can immediately apply and practice the techniques learned during the Training throughout the full 3 years. Graduating students on professional internships may be exceptions to this. Applications are considered on a case-by-case basis.

We welcome applicants from the following fields:

  • Mental health professionals: psychologists, psychiatrists, psychoanalysts, psychotherapists, social workers, counsellors, marriage and family therapists, art therapists, etc.

  • Medical and alternative medicine professionals: doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, chiropractors, emergency service workers, surgeons, obstetricians, midwives, acupuncturists, naturopathic doctors, etc.

  • Bodywork professionals: massage therapists, Rolfing therapists, craniosacral therapists, Feldenkrais practitioners, yoga therapists, etc.

  • Others: first responders, crisis centre staff, educators, mediators, clergy, etc.

This program was specifically designed by the method's developers for the continuing education of professionals to work more effectively with their traumatized clients. The method is not suitable for those who are merely seeking an experience to support their personal development or for those who do not have an active practice. Admission to the SE professional training does not guarantee that all SE tools will be suitable for incorporation into your own professional practice. The Training participant is responsible for acting within their own professional scope and for complying with state and central laws and regulations.

  • Personal Experience

This training was created to train professionals dealing with trauma therapy to help their clients process trauma. The Training is not a self-help course for processing our own traumas. Due to the depth and nature of the work, personal traumas may surface, so a minimum of 15 individual consultations are required to obtain the certificate.

  • Recommended

We recommend 1-3 SE sessions as personal experience before starting the Training. This will provide the basics of self-regulation and give practical insight into the SE methodology.

  • Application

All applicants must complete an application form that includes:

  • resume (CV)

  • 2 professional references

  • document proving professional membership

  • 1 photo

  • a brief description of why you're interested in working with trauma

Each application is evaluated individually. Completing and submitting the application alone does not guarantee a place in the Training.
