Penny Boyland
SEP, Senior Assistant - Level 2,
stress and trauma therapist
Penny has been a stress and trauma therapist for 16 years. Fascinated by health and illness since childhood, she initially built a career in pharmaceutical research, studying anxiety and depression.
However, disillusioned by the reductionist worldview of Western medicine, she pursued further education in 1999, becoming a Chinese Five Element Acupuncturist and then an Emotional Awareness Practitioner (sensing the impact of emotions on the body). In 2006, she discovered SE® and obtained her SEP certification in 2009. Since then, she has joyfully assisted in SE® Trainings worldwide (previously in the United Kingdom, Australia, and Poland).
The main characteristic of Penny's method is the integration of somatic felt sense with Western traumatology and physiology, and the Taoist philosophy of Chinese medicine. In her work, she also draws from other trauma-related modalities she has studied (auriculotherapy; Brainspotting, BSP; the Comprehensive Resource Model or CRM; The Grief Recovery Method or GRM; The Alchemy of Shame Transformation Model or AST; The Neuro Affective Relational Model or NARM, and Neuro Affective Touch), as well as studies on developmental trauma; emotions (including shame and guilt), attachment, and of course, the polyvagal theory.
Penny works in private practice in Brighton, UK, with adult clients, specializing primarily in pre- and perinatal trauma, attachment ruptures and issues, childhood trauma, and grief.
In her free time, she is passionate about nature photography, loves Cuban salsa music and dance, and enjoys traveling and exploring different cultures during her trips.
